Hysteroscopy

What Is It?

Hysteroscopy is a way for your doctor to look at the lining of your uterus using a thin viewing tool called a hysteroscope. The tip of the hysteroscope is put into your vagina and gently moved through the cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope has a light and a camera attached to it to help visualize the uterine lining (endometrium).

When Is It Indicated?

It is done to see the shape of the endometrial cavity, the endometrium, the cornual ends of the tubes. It treats at the same time, in the same sitting, lesions like polyp, adhesions, submucous fibroids, and septa.

It is also done before an IVF cycle to confirm a healthy lining of the uterus. The procedure by itself increases the chances of a successful pregnancy with IVF.

What can the patient expect?

Hysteroscopy is a minor procedure done under Local Anaesthesia or sedation. The patient can go back home in a few hours after the procedure
