IVF - ICSI Cycle

Most IVF cycles commence at the time of the women’s menstrual period. The details that follow are grouped into the four basic principles of the IVF process and may be adjusted based on the individualized needs of the patient.

1. Ovarian Suppression

Down regulation is started 2-4 weeks prior to ovarian stimulation. It is accompanied by various baseline tests.

2. Ovarian Stimulation & Egg Retrieval

Stimulation starts from beginning of Menstrual cycle, and takes 8-12 days. Cycle monitoring is done by blood tests and ultrasound scans. Finally an ovulation trigger is given, after which the eggs are retrieved.

3. Fertilization & ICSI

1-2 hours after egg retrieval, sperms are collected. Fertilization of the egg is then done using ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) or IVF. Embryos are then incubated in a controlled environment with regulated temperature, pH, humidity, CO2, O2, and Nitrogen levels.

4. Embryo Transfer

Embryos are transferred 2-5 days after egg retrieval. Extra embryos of good quality may be vitrified for future use.

Pre Implantation Genetic Screening or Diagnosis may be done, if indicated.

β-hCG testing is done on Day 14/15 after embryo transfer.
